41st Top Half Folk Festival Glen Helen 10 – 13 June 2011
Once again Alice Springs is hosting the Top Half Folk Festival over the Queen’s Birthday Weekend at Glen Helen Resort. There is a full weekend’s entertainment and people can either opt to spend the whole weekend there starting on the Friday evening and coming back to town on the Monday or elect to go out just for the day. Full weekend tickets cost $90 which includes breakfasts and all entertainment. Daily Tickets are $40. The resort will be looking after all our culinary and refreshment needs with specials available each day. Some of our performing guests include.
Peter Bugden from Perth is our major act this year. He has been involved in the WA folk scene for many years and was an occasional visitor to the Alice Springs Folk Club in the 80s and 90s. He is an accomplished performer with an eclectic repertoire, including traditional, old music hall songs, blues and some very funny parodies of some very well known songs.
Loaded Dog, also from Perth, is a 5-piece band playing contemporary and traditional Australian song and tunes using an array of instruments such as guitars, mandolin, button accordion and banjo with a strong vocal line up.
Francesca Sidoti is a seasoned performer and a winner of the prestigious Liz Johnston Award for Vocal Excellence awarded at The National Folk Festival in Canberra each year. Raised on a mix of folk, country and blues, this young performer has emerged with a powerful voice and a style all her own.
Local acts include Ted Egan, Dom Costello, Cat Dragged In, Jeanette Wormald, Dave Oakes, Rusty and the Infidels, Ross Muir and Chris Scott, Jamie Balfour and Edan Baxter, Phlip Side and M’liss Scott, Jayne Hughes and Penny Bergen
We also have a number of visiting performers coming from Victoria, Tasmania South Australia, Queensland NSW, WA and Darwin. Some old favourites, and some first timers.
