The Mparntwe String Band and Folk Song Collective

The string band and folk song collective was establised to provide opportunities for singers and musicians to share folk music in an informal, supportive setting. Created in 2023 as part of the Desert Festival, the project initially brought string players and singers of all backgrounds, levels of experience and expertise together to learn and perform a range of folk music.

Since 2023, the string band has remained open to string players of all levels. Learning, playing and experiencing the joys of folk music remain the key objective, and perforances are optional.

We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present, and emerging, and extend this respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The rich traditions of storytelling and song are deeply engrained in this land.
